Affordable Maui Weddings

We named one of our sister websites Affordable Maui Weddings because that's exactly what we offer: affordable Maui weddings! We were surfing on the Internet to see what our competitors are offering and we came upon another Maui weddings site who had an interesting table with a price comparison of several Maui weddings companies along with his own. Of course, his prices were the lowest on the table.

We had to smile. We wish that competitor would include our company in his comparison. Our prices are much lower than his. The reason we can do this is because we are almost completely self-contained. John is both our main Maui photographer -- you can see his photography website at Maui Photographer and he is also our main minister.

You might wonder how John can do both photography and minister at the same Maui wedding. He takes the "before" pictures, then hands the camera over to me and I shoot the wedding proper), then he does all of the romantic shots after the wedding right up until sunset. As you can see by the photography on this site and also on John's Maui photography site, he has a lot of experience and gets great results. And that translates into making your Maui wedding that much more affordable.

By the way, John is a "true" minister (as compared to most all of the other ministers on the island who are really just "officiants"). He received his "Rev." status and his license the long way, attending a four-year Christian college and spending years as a church planter and pastor in Northern California and Oregon. So being the minister is not just one of the hats he wears "to make more money", it flows out of what John is.

That same competitor's website makes the statement to the effect that a true professional photographer will not sell you his negatives. Now we all know why he claims that. There is a lot of money to be made in doing reprints. We've had other Maui photographers tell us that they made another 30 to 50 percent profit by selling reprints and enlargements to their clients and their family after the wedding.

John is a popular professional Maui photographer and he chooses to sell my negatives and CDRoms of both my film and digital Maui weddings. Why? To be honest, because we don't want the hassle of having to go through those negatives and those CDRoms to make prints for our clients. We see it as an accounting nightmare, especially considering that we've been doing weddings here for eight years and would have about 1200 sets of negatives to be filed and found. We would much rather just sell those negatives to you so that you can make your own duplicates and enlargements. That way we all benefit.

So these are just some of the reasons why Maui Me also does business as Affordable Maui Weddings. We do a quality Maui wedding at a very affordable price. So much so, that our competitors don't want to put our prices on their website!

Please feel free to go to the home page for Affordable Maui Weddings if you like. It is just another version of "us." The prices are the same but only the names (of the packages) have been changed.

Maui Weddings Answers

We've just put up a new page on our Maui Me website entitled simply: "Maui Weddings"

This page takes 12 common questions people have about their Maui weddings and answers each one in detail with links to appropriate Maui weddings pages and articles on our Maui Wedding Planner blog. We've tried to be pretty thorough on this page, hoping it will be a kind of Maui Weddings Information Site Map for those visiting our website.

Take a look at it and see if it answers your questions.

But remember, the BEST way to get your questions answered about Maui weddings is simply to give us a ring. We can cover so much ground so much more quickly on the telephone than we can ever cover in a web page.

And remember, when you call, you are under no obligation whatsoever. We know that you need to answer all your Maui weddings questions before you can even begin thinking about booking. On this new page on our site we also have our article about Maui Wedding Planners and 10 Tips to Help you Select the Right Hawaiian Coordinator.

Maui Sunset Weddings

Many times couples will ask what I recommend when it comes to the time of the day of their wedding. A wedding earlier in the day can be nice, especially if you want nice blues and vibrant colors in your photography or video. But there is something remarkable about the changes that the sky and the landscape goes through when we reach the end of the day here on Maui. Almost always, I recommend to couples that they choose the sunset time of day. About 90 percent of the Maui weddings we perform do take place at sunset.

One exception for this for many couples is if they want to attend a luau. All of the luaus on the island start early so that you would not be able to have a sunset wedding if you are attending a luau. Another exception is if you want an early morning wedding. We've never actually performed a sunrise wedding, as most of our vendors do not want to get up in the morning when it is still dark. We also live on the wrong side of the island to see a truly good sunrise. We have a 10,000 foot high volcano sitting between us and that sun, and it usually doesn't clear the mountain until after 9 a.m.

Also, couples you want to get married in a garden or at a waterfall, usually don't have sunset weddings because you usually can't see the sunset from those locations. And most Maui garden wedding sites are only open up until 5 p.m. Also, couples who want a wedding chapel often get married earlier in the day.

The ultimate wedding in paradise should be a Maui sunset wedding. On Maui I would say that about 90 to 95 percent of the time, we have awesome sunsets. There so great, I often tell our couples: "I want you to know that we ordered this sunset just for you."

There is nothing like seeing that golden globe reaching the horizon as you walk hand-in-hand on the beach while the sun is setting towards the ocean. Each Maui sunset is different. Each has its own particular characteristics. There are almost always clouds in the sky, and that's what makes a sunset so striking as the clouds change colors while the sun is moving slowly towards the horizon.

As a company, we pride ourselves on making certain that we allow the right amount of time on a Maui sunset beach wedding so that our couples can enjoy the golden glow on the horizon and also so that they are not rushed as the sun disappears. Some couples think that a sunset wedding takes place exactly as the sun sets. Actually, we want to finish your Maui wedding 45 minutes to a hour before the sun sets so that we have adequate time to get all of those great sunset photos that we specialize in.

But recording those beautiful memories in your photography or wedding video is important. You will want to remember that moment for a lifetime. It is so important that you make certain you have a photographer who knows how to shoot the Maui sunset. Although we usually prefer a wedding beach this is secluded and private, we have sometimes found ourselves on beaches that were crowded with other newly married couples and their photographers.

We find it interesting to occasionally glance over at other photographers and see what they're doing, if for no other reason than to get some new ideas. Usually, however, we're surprised by how often I'll see a photographer stop shooting just as the sun is reaching its most dramatic moments. Or worse, they are shooting parallel to the sun so that the colorful sky will not appear in their photographs.

As amazing as it might seem, not all Hawaii wedding photographers know how to shoot the sunset. If you don't flash it just right, it is easy to lose the color in the sky by making it go too light or too dark. We like to shoot our couples with a large telephoto lens right as the sun reaches the horizon (usually right over their shoulders), so that we can have the largest size orange in the picture as possible.

If you want good sunset photography at your Hawaii wedding, by all means look at the photographer's website to be certain that he knows how to shoot it. Several years ago one of our couples hired their own photographer and brought her to our wedding sight. The wedding took below the resort hotel, but the photographer took at least half of her pictures in the lobby! Why, I wondered would you do that when you can get a lobby anywhere in the world, especially when Hawaii provides such a beautiful background for our couples. When the photographer did shoot the couple overlooking the ocean, the sun and clouds created one of the most beautiful skies I've ever seen. John remarked to the groom how gorgeous the sunset was and he asked the photographer, "could we get some shots of the sunset too?"Her response was: "The light is not right." Woe. That photographer apparently had no idea how to shoot that sunset, and not wanting to embarrass herself when the pictures came back, she just talked her way out of avoiding the task altogether. So, be certain that you have a photographer who knows how to shoot a Hawaii sunset wedding so that you won't end up disappointed.

To make certain you get a sunset slot on our calendar be sure and book early enough to get your own Maui sunset wedding. If you have a memorable day on which you want to be married, that's all the more reason to book early so that you won't be disappointed because someone else already has "your sunset" slot booked.

Last Second Maui Weddings

Last night John did two weddings. One of them had been on the books for a couple of weeks, and the other was a last second Maui wedding with just a few days notice. We both are willing and anxious to do last second weddings, but for the couple's sake they will get nicer results when they plan their wedding a bit more in advance. To get married and then have to run to the airport is not my idea of the ideal Maui wedding situation.

I am amazed at the number of couples who come to Maui planning on getting married, but who have done almost no preparation. They have not called the company who is going to do their wedding and they just feel that they can pick up the telephone book and find a company for a quick wedding.

Personally, when it comes to one of the most important decisions and memorable days of your life, it would seem that you would want to plan ahead and get photography, etc. Now some couples tell us, "this is a second (or a third wedding, etc.) so we don't want to do anything special. It seems to me that is actually more of a reason to do something special. You certainly don't want to communicate to each other that this won't be "an important wedding event" compared to your previous nuptials. If anything, I would think you want to say, "even though this is the second (or third) time around, THIS wedding is the most important commitment that I could be making right now, right here, with You." Our spouse deserves nothing less.

John has written two articles (with more to come) on this site to help couples build their love. If you want to read them, go to the Love Builder's Site Map page.

Maui Wedding Planner | Hawaii Wedding Planner

Every day we try to update several of our key web pages so that they'll be more search engine friendly -- so that the many couples coming to Hawaii to get married can find us. John has just updated our Maui Weddings Packages page on this Maui Me website.

Today, he also went to one of our companion sites which is called 1st Choice Maui Weddings. On that site he updated the 1st Choice Maui Weddings Home page. He also updated the 1st Choice Maui Weddings Ala Carte page. What makes that page so nice is that it contains a lot of our individual prices for couples who want to add to their basic Maui Wedding Package. We are going to place another, larger version of that page on the Maui Me website soon.

Maui Nanny | Maui Babysitter

Over a month ago, we first introduced our daughter Rebecca's brand new website about her Maui Nanny - Many Babysitter service. This is another reminder about this service, which is so needed in a place like Maui when you are on vacation and you need help with the kids.

Rebecca's site has just received a total make-over as we wanted to make it easier for the search engines to find and properly "see" it. She offers both a Maui Babysitting service and a Maui Nanny service along with a Maui elderly care service if you have brought seniors along with you and they have a tough time getting out (and need something to look after them).

Let me list out each of the seven web pages that she has on her Maui Nanny site:

Her Maui Nanny - Maui Babysitter Home page.
Her Maui Nanny - Maui Babysitter Policy page.
Her Maui Nanny - Maui Babysitter Rates page.
Her Maui Nanny - Maui Babysitter Elderly Care page.
Her Maui Nanny - Maui Babysitter Philosophy page.
Her Maui Nanny - Maui Babysitter About Me page.
Her Maui Nanny - Maui Babysitter Booking page.

On the "booking" the form does not yet work. So you can book her by calling her telephone number.

Finding a quality Maui Babysitter and/or a quality Maui Nanny is hard on the Internet because so often all sorts of unrelated sites come up (like someone who visited Hawaii last year and also takes about their great babysitter at home). So we're hoping that her site will show up high for people who are looking for a Maui Nanny and a Maui Babysitter.

Maui Weddings in May

We have a lot of Maui weddings of our calendar for the end of April, May and June. Traditionally, these are some of our business months. We have even booked weddings for these months for 2007! If you're planning to have a Maui wedding, and you have a rough idea when you want to have your wedding, be sure and give us a call so that you can see if your date is available.

There is only one sunset each night, and if you want our services, it is wise to call early. We make time for even last second weddings (like the one we performed tonight), but it is far better to plan ahead. The more complicated your Maui wedding the more you want to plan ahead.

Maui Beach Weddings -- Sunset/Sunrise Times

If you're coming to Maui and you are having a sunset wedding (as most Maui couples do), you might be interested in looking at a website that gives sunrises and sunsets in Hawaii.

In the past, we've relied on a sunset calendar to remind us when the sun will set on each of our wedding nights. But this little site is much more accurate and easy to use.

Go to the Sunrise/Sunset Site and put in the city where you'll be having your wedding (like Kihei), the month and year, and the "civil twilight" (which is explained on the site) and you will be given the sunset time of your Maui beach wedding.

A true sunset wedding is not actually performed as the sun goes down (because that would mean we would miss the beauty of the sunset for your romantic shots). We usually plan our smaller weddings for about one hour before sunset so that we have time to do everything: perform the actual wedding, take photography of the guests and the wedding couple, cut the cake (if there is one), get the video shot, and then do our final romantic photography and videography shots right at sunset.

Five Things Every Woman Needs to From Her Man

There are many things that a woman would like to have from her man, but in this article, located at "Five Things Every Woman Needs From Her Man" you will see the things which John feels are so important in a good relationship. The material in this articles is crucial for some couples.

Often, a couple doesn't know what is happening in their relationship. Why they are suffering from certain cycles of action and reaction. The more you know about what your lover's needs are the easier it is for you to be able to give it to her, and thus be able to build her up. That's what this article gives, practical suggestions for building your love life.

Here's part of just one point found in John's Love Builders article:

"A woman needs to share a deep emotional bond with her man. Now what do I mean by that? Women love it when they see that their man is in touch with his feelings. By that they enjoy knowing that you have feelings and that you are not ashamed to share them.

"Many men have a hard time 'opening up' to women. Maybe they don't like to talk much. Or they just don't like 'touchy, feely' sorts of topics. When asked how they feel, they simply go into the 'no comment' mode. If this is your natural approach to communication, you will be missing a serious and important part of your woman's needs, because a woman needs to know your feelings. She also needs to feel that the two of you have a deep emotional connection."

I hope you'll go take a look at the article.

Love Builders

When we first moved to Maui and began our wedding business, my husband John wrote a separate website called Love Builders. The site was full of these great articles to help single and married couples build their love relationships. It was part of our philosophy of making our business more of a ministry to those we serve.

The site was tremendously popular, but eventually, we had to take it down. Now, I'm pleased to announce that John is in the beginning stages of putting up many of those articles once again, rewritten for the age we live in, and this time you can find them right on the Maui Me website in our lovebuilder's folder.

You might want to take a look at the site map for the Love Builders site. Just click on those words.

We now have two articles up. I'll talk more about them in later blogs, but you can go directly to them if you like. The first article is entitled: "Five Things Every Woman Needs From Her Man" This article has a number of great suggestions for both men and women about at least five things that are important in any relationship. Girls, I would suggest that you have your man read it.

The second article is called: "How to Act Romantic Even When You're Not the Romantic Type." This article gives seven tips for men about how to be more romantic in your relationships. Once again girls, this is a great article to have you man read.

We are licensing any of John's articles to be placed on other websites as long as each article is used in full (without editing) and an appropriate link is made back to our website. So if you have a website or a newsletter and you want to use any of our growing list of articles, feel free to do so.

Maui Wedding Photographer -- John Souter

My husband, who is Maui photographer John Souter is always perfecting his craft. He has now gone digital to a great extent. (He'll still be doing film as well). He has purchased two great camera, three lenses, and all sorts of complimentary photography equipment like filters, flash units and other miscellaneous gear.

With these new additions, we will continue to be much more able to give your Maui wedding photography the care it needs. John loves the advantage of being able to see instantly what he's shot and also have the opportunity to compensate to create just the right look for our couples' photography.

Now you can ask for either digital or film, depending upon your needs and desire. If you haven't seen his website, you can go there by clicking: at Maui Photographer. Just about all the images on the Maui Me website are his work.

Maui Wedding Bouquet

At Maui Me, we believe that we have one of the best florists on the island. She is able to do just about any bouquet for our brides. I believe that's one thing that sets our Hawaiian wedding flowers apart from so many others. You won't be forced to get any particular bouquet. I know that most brides have specific ideas in their minds as to what they want their bouquet to look like, and our florist can accommodate those special needs.

We already have photos of several different bouquets on our Maui wedding flower page, but we're at work putting together a new page that will give much more graphic illustrations of the many choices available to you on Maui. We are now making the effort to photograph every bouquet (especially the unique ones) that our brides receive. This way you'll be able to see what each one looks like.

Even now, brides often ask me for specific ideas, and I'll email photos to them so that they can see what past brides have used. For now, take a look at our Maui Wedding Bouquets on our Hawaiian Wedding Flower page.

Past Maui Weddings

We often hear from couples that we have married or done photography for in the past. Tonight John was videotaping the Grand Opening Friday night service for our church Hope Chapel in Kihei. Afterwards, a girl waved to him. It was Rachel who worked for us as one of our wedding coordinators for over a year.

She left us to get married and John did her Maui wedding photography. Although her first born is just now entering preschool and her second born was in the stroller after church, she is still raving about his photography. He look a lot of images (which he gave to her as a wedding present) and she commented that they had enlarged them all. She has a ton of great pictures.

When you've married (and or helped in coordinating) over 1200 weddings it is always fun to see what changes have happened in people's lives. If you're reading this and you were married by John, drop us an email and let us know how you're doing.

Maui Babysitter

Two weeks ago I blogged about my daughter, Rebecca Souter, who is a Maui Nanny. Her Website has been up for about the same period of time.

Now, don't let the word "nanny" scare you, as in you have to keep her permanently in your employ while you're on Maui. Basically, she simply is a quality Maui babysitter. That is important.

We have many Maui wedding couples who already have children either separately or together. And like all couples with small children they will need time alone (or away from the kids) with activities that the kids can't participate in. This is all the more true when you're on your honeymoon. You need some time ALONE to nurture the romance.

So a babysitter is often needed and required. But when you're out of town, who ya gonna call? THE Maui Babysitter (a.k.a. the Maui Nanny), Rebecca Souter.

I should tell you that she is great with kids of all ages. It is not uncommon for the kids to jump up and down when she arrives a second time. She's taken care of some families for years. When they come to Maui, they always call her. In fact, they call way ahead of time to make sure that they get her.

She has a kit which she brings with her including a wide variety of crafts. She doesn't sit around watching TV, she works with the kids and gets them having fun. Think how important it is for your kids to have some quality time of their own. That's what she provides.

So if you have young kids who would enjoy a quality babysitting experience, make sure you call Rebecca when you come to Maui.

Maui Wedding Minister John Souter: "Why Do So Many Brides Cry at My Maui Wedding Ceremony?"

John Souter is our main Maui Wedding Minister. He has been active in the ministry for over 35 years and is truly a "minister" as opposed to an "officiant" like most of the other ministers here on Maui. He earned his status by attending Bible college and also by pastoring (and starting) several churches in California and Oregon.

John has put up a brand new page entitled: "Maui Wedding Minister John Souter: Why do so Many Brides Cry at My Maui Weddings?" The title might be a bit "catchy", but the truths behind what he believes and how he communicates for our couples through his Maui wedding ceremonies might be interesting for you to read.

You can visit John's Page, and then, if you like take a look at each of his three main ceremonies from that page.
